2-Day Courses

Our two-day courses are a great opportunity to really explore Ikebana and all its components.

As each course costs £230 per person and this includes all the materials, lunch, coffee, and biscuits in the studio. A £50 deposit is required in order to secure the slot. This deposit is non-returnable if there is a cancellation less than 28 days in advance.

We also offer a B&B service on request, for £50 per person per night.


IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

As the discipline of Ikebana follows a strict curriculum, if you are new to Ikebana, you will start at the beginning of the curriculum for any class you attend. You can find the curriculum here.

Our classes will focus on a specific style or theme for more experienced attendees.

We welcome all beginners to come to any class to start their Ikebana journey!

Bunjin or Morimono with roses and summer material

Bunjin (chinese influence) with roses and summer material. Morimono for seniors and traditional colour scheme for other students.

In this class, for our advanced students, we will go into detail about the "Bunjin" Theory which is strongly influenced by Chinese painters and is a contemporary form of Ikebana. For our beginner and intermediate students, we will look at "Morimono", which is a still life arrangement set on black or lacquered board and is within the Bunjin category. You will also do some practical work to utilise this knowledge.

RIMPA,BUNJIN MASTERCLASS & ONE ROW, HANA ISHO IN SMALL POT

This class is for our advanced students. We will go into detail about the Bunjin Theory which is highly influenced by Chinese painters and is a contemporary form of Ikebana. The ‘Hana Isho’ style is the simple beginning of two lines with two materials. ‘One Row’ is an advanced ‘Hana Isho’ which incorporates and thrd line. You will discover the characteristics of the style and how flowers, branches, vase and composition make up the arrangement. Also, you will learn about the history of each style and have some creative time to practise your skills.

10th & 11th November - Heika Course

Over these two days we will that all the different style within Heika. We will look at upright slanting and cascading heika with fixings in tall pots. The upright slanting heika arrangement combines the traditional verticality of the heika with a subtle slant, creating an engaging depiction of natural movement. Cascading heika arrangements spill over, creating a flow of flowers and foliage that captivates the eye. On day two we will delve a little deeper in to the art of free expression.

TWO DAY Course - Beginners Course

In this course, we will start from the beginning of the curriculum by the Ohara School of Ikebana. We will start by looking at some of the fundamentals of Ikebana, understanding the basic principles of the art form and then developing into creating the simple Ikebana style and techniques. This is a great course for those who don’t know much about Ikebana but would like to start their Ikebana Journey.

Heika Freestyle, Free Expression, Hana Mai and Hana Kanade

Working tall pots has a general name of ‘Nageire’. But the Ohara school called work in tall pots, ‘Heika’ which translates to ‘tossed into a pot’. Heika freestyle is the choice of 3 types of Heika. Free expression allows you the freedom to break the rules. Hana Mai is a sculpture as opposed to a flower arrangement and the name translate to ‘dancing flowers’. Hana Kanade is a new arrangement designed by the new headmaster and involves crossing lines.

Iris, Peonies, Hanakanade & Hosun Moons

This is a course designed to used the summer flowers of Iris and Peonies in school designs. Hanakanade is the new arrangement with crossing lines and Hosun moons are the small moon that are no more than 20cm in diameter.
